Patchy plot

Patchy, after ten years of wanting to meet SpongeBob, goes to Nickelodeon studios to meet his favorite idol. He waits at the gate. (hoping for SpongeBob) A security guard shows up and takes him to the casting room. Patchy orders a shrimp cocktail. Patchy sees something with celebrity phone numbers in it. His bad side (which is just Potty with horns and a cape) tells him to call, and his good side (Potty with an angel skirt) tells him not to. Patchy calls Rosario Dawson and she hangs because of his bad breath. He then decides to call Lebron James, but he hangs up because he has a game to attend to. He finally calls who he thinks is Tina Turner, but is actually Tina Fey. He decides to call Will Ferrell. He (Will Ferrell) hangs up. The last person he calls is Craig Ferguson, his old friend from pirate school who tells him that Robin Williams is in the studio. Then, Robin Williams shows up and Patchy takes him to the green room. Patchy starts the show and the guests are: The 3 Point Fowl, The Guy on the Penny, The Queen, Pink, Sir Quentin and Mr. Tinder, and guest of honor, SpongeBob SquarePants. Since he does not show up until later, Patchy goes off to find him. Later, Pink decide to rehearse and we hear some of their songs. Patchy finally gets to Bikini Atoll. He gets swallowed by a whale and he decides to go adead and show the outtakes and the rejected scenes. A film starts and Patchy tells us that SpongeBob started as a thought and that he was made into a primitive rendering. He then shows us a Patrick, Mr. Krabs and a Squidward version of the theme song. Then we see a 1920's Mickey Mouse cartoon style segment of SpongeBob going to work. Patchy gets spit out of the whale. He lands in the studio and he is knocked out. He dreams that he meets SpongeBob. He faints and the dream ends. The Guy on the Penny asks him if he is ok. Patchy says he will never meet SpongeBob and the Patchy segments end.

SpongeBob Plot

The Krusty Krab celebrates its "eleventy-seventh" anniversary, and Mr. Krabs plans to sell lots of Krabby Patties. Spongebob has all the decorations ready, but when he takes the whole group into the freezer to show them the a big Krabby Patty he made out of ice, it proves to heavy for him to pull, and he flies out, only to bounce back in, the door closing and locking behind him. So SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs accidentally get locked in the freezer before they have a chance to celebrate. While finding their way through air shafts, they look back at some memorable moments in their lives and tell each other shocking reveals, thinking that they will never get out. SpongeBob even almost reveals the secret formula in a flashback! Meanwhile, Plankton finally finds the perfect opportunity to steal the Krabby Patty formula! But, like any other episode, the formula fails to come out to the public. We keep waiting.

Cultural References

  • The original title is based on the Boys Like Girls song "The Great Escape". It may have also been from the classic 1963 film of the same name.

Trivia/Goofs

  • This is the fourth time someone got locked in the freezer. The first time was Squidward in SB-129, the second time was The Health Inspector in Nasty Patty and the third time was Wigstruck although it was just mentioned.
  • There was a 3-hour marathon to go with the movie.
  • The original name was The Great Escape but later it was changed to Truth or Square.
  • In September, there were two books released, based on this movie. They are called SpongeBob SquarePants: The Great Escape! and SpongeBob SquarePants: Good Times!.
  • This is the second SpongeBob TV movie. The first was Atlantis SquarePantis.
  • This movie was originally going to air during Season 6, but it was later moved to Season 7.
  • The German version aired on the 7th of November, the day after it aired in the USA.
  • The movie is called Truth or Square, but the book calls it The Great Escape, its original name.
  • There is also a game to the movie called, "Truth or Square".
  • The movie includes a new opening in stop-motion. [1]
  • In this movie, there is footage of SpongeBob as a baby and the first Krusty Krab commercials.
  • The first ad said SpongeBob and Sandy could be getting married in this movie. A second ad says that SpongeBob once married Sandy. However, it turns out to be a play which the Bikini Bottomites dislike very much.
  • Mother SquarePants is seen pregnant with SpongeBob for the first time. Also, Mother SquarePants' old hairdo is seen in this movie.
  • It is unknown who the Krusty Krab fry cook during SpongeBob's baby flashback was. In Squidward's "Before SpongeBob" flashback, Jim wasn't the fry cook, possibly because the flashback takes place after he quit or it's a different design of him.
  • This is the first movie and/or episode in HD.
  • This is the first episode in widescreen.
  • This is the first time Sandy is seen in a wedding dress.
  • This is the fourth time SpongeBob is seen in a tuxedo. The first was in The Chaperone, the second was in To Love a Patty, and the third was in Overbooked.
  • This is the second time we've seen Sandy in a dress. The first was in Overbooked.
  • SpongeBob pulls the umbilical cord out of his belly button in his flash back. This probably would've killed him, but didn't.
  • There is a 1920's cartoon style segment of SpongeBob going to work.
  • This episode airs in the UK on 13th November 2009
  • Although probably unintentional, there seems to be references to many past episodes/movies. For example: when getting dressed, references to The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Stuck in the Wringer, Picture Day, and the Lost Episode.
  • How can Spongebob put his umbilical cord into his mouth?
  • Patchy the Pirate is always seen with a peg leg, but in this movie he doesn't have one.
  • Despite foreshadowing in the advertisements, the Krabby Patty formula was never revealed. Also, SpongeBob had never actually married Sandy.
  • This is the first time Patchy is underwater.
  • 3 altered SpongeBob theme songs are shown, one with Patrick, one with Mr. Krabs, and one with Squidward.
  • During the 20's style cartoon, the Krusty Krab has no flags.
  • SpongeBob and Sandy's marriage was a play, but SpongeBob said "Remember the day Sandy and I got married?"
  • The episode title card music is the same as Hocus Pocus, Whale of a Birthday, and Funny Pants.
  • The first and only episode where Tom Kenny (SpongeBob's voice actor) is mentioned.
  • This is the second time Patchy saw SpongeBob. The first was Atlantis SquarePantis.
  • After the day of this movie's premiere, the celebrity cameos were cut out for some unknown reasons.
  • How is the Krusty Krab 117 years old if Mr. Krabs is only in his 60s and if he created it after his Navy years? Possibly they're also refering to the years, before, when the Krusty Krab used to be the former retirement home, the Rusty Krab.
  • There's two problems when the freezer door ges locked. One: SpongeBob looked like he was supposed to fly out the window, but hit the wall. And two: how can the door just close by itself and the lock can fall down by itself? That is impossible. So they really aren't really locked in the freezer.
  • It is possible that SpongeBob and Sandy truly wanted to get married, by tricking the minister, because he said, "I had no idea this was a play."
  • It is revealed that the Chum Bucket is 50 years old. That means that the Chum Bucket was founded in 1959.
  • In the 20's cartoon, SpongeBob said that he ready to go to work, before he put on his pants.
  • The play wedding is a reference to the end of the first book in Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events when Count Olaf tries to marry Violet in a play.
