Plot

When Mr. Krabs gives SpongeBob the only key to the vault holding the Krabby Patty Secret Formula, SpongeBob vows to guard it. But as soon as SpongeBob and Patrick board the Oceanic Express train to retrieve the formula, the key mysteriously goes missing. Who could have stolen the key? Was it the sneaky Plankton? Or was it the "butler"?

Trivia/Goofs

  • Two books based on this episode, "The Great Patty Caper" and "The Great Train Mystery", were released in September.
  • The original title for this episode was Krabby Patty No More. It was then changed to The Great Patty Caper.
  • This episode aired on 11/11/10.
  • It is revealed by Perch Perkins that Johnny's real name is Elaine.
  • Promos titled this episode Mystery with a Twistery.
  • When SpongeBob is entering the freezer, a fish skeleton can be seen on a bunch of boxes. This is a spoof of a scene in Star Wars when there is a skeleton in the Wampa's snowcave.
  • At the end of the episode SpongeBob was actually narrating the whole episode, he is problaby in his 80's, and he has grandson or grandnephew playing a handheld video game system
  • How could the engine unit of the loco possibly have the ability to run without the tender or maybe it doesn't need coal all the time.
  • Actually, two trains appear in this episode, the 1st one being a high-speed looking train hauling a flatbed wagon and the 2nd one is The Oceanic Express.
  • Billy was a werewolf in the episode but don't werewolves appear in the night not during the day. Maybe it's because Patrick said werewolves which probably made him turn into one. He also appears in the Krusty Krab tearing off a pole. Also reading a book on the Oceanic Express in the dining car when SpongeBob and Patrick were searching for Plankton.
  • Plankton was reading a magazine called PQ which is about Plankton's all over.
  • Why is the Train Center placed directly on the line, it's such a loony idea?!
  • How could the loco possibly emit fire from the funnel, or maybe it was because Patrick shoveled in the coal [or "Black Rocks" as he calls it cause he doesn't know what they really are] to fast.
  • How was the coal able to get into the loco's cab when the tender doesn't have an open space at the front to allow the fireman to acess the coal.
  • The loco seems to be driving itself because when SpongeBob and Patrick entered the cab, neither the driver nor fireman were seen.
  • Although the commercial said this episode is Mystery with a Twistery, actually, there is nothing mysterious in this episode.
