==Plot==
At the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob SquarePants sees that Eugene Krabs is watching a crime movie. Mr. Krabs starts to talk about how bad thieves are, and then SpongeBob and Patrick Star start asking him about all the things he stole, and Mr. Krabs says he "borrowed" everything. Later that day, SpongeBob and Patrick see a balloon stand. Since they have no money, they decide to "borrow" a balloon. They sneak it away, and it immediately pops. Because they can't return it, they think that they are thieves. They realize that it isn't safe to stay in Bikini Bottom. They leave and walk into the distance by foot, leaving everything from their home town behind.

As the episode begins, Squidward has made a very good soufflé, which is in the shape of a little mountain with a miniature version of Squidward seated on a throne under a little palm tree on top, in his kitchen. After showering, gargling and brushing his teeth, Squidward returns in a tuxedo and sits down at his table to eat the soufflé, but SpongeBob and Patrick's laughing soon distracts him from enjoying it. Squidward sees they are having a private conversation with bubbles. They whisper a message into the bubble wand instead of blowing into it, and when the bubble pops, the message can be heard.

That night, they begin to miss everyone and all the fun things that they used to do at Bikini Bottom with all of their old friends that they will deeply miss. But then they look at the positives:
+
Annoyed, Squidward makes bubbles of his own from the liquid of his soufflé, imitating SpongeBob and Patrick, but insulting them both. Thinking the bubbles are from each other, SpongeBob and Patrick become angry and get into a fight, eventually declaring that they are no longer friends. Squidward, sitting on a lawn chair, eats his soufflé while laughing, but in doing so chokes on the fork. Patrick performs CPR on him, and he becomes Squidward's friend.

# They can loosen their ties.
+
Patrick falls asleep on Squidward when Squidward plays his clarinet, and Squidward angrily drags him out and also sprains his back. SpongeBob helps Squidward and becomes his friend. SpongeBob and Squidward decide to play music. SpongeBob plays a cello which he thinks is a bassinet, but he plays the music scratchily and launches the bow into a painting of Squidward; he proceeds to strum the cello like a guitar. He violently breaks it when Patrick interrupts, and Squidward angrily kicks him out. However, Squidward is greeted in the bathroom by Patrick, who is taking a bath, and SpongeBob arrives. As the two argue, Squidward runs outside.
# They can fly (Ok, not really).
+
# They never have to shave.
+
# They can talk tough.
+
# The best part is that they no longer have to return anything that they borrow.

SpongeBob and Patrick realize that being a criminal will be...well... fun! But then Patrick says that they will need to get some food to start off. SpongeBob already has with him two candy bars, possibly enough to last them their whole life-until Patrick eats the whole thing in one bite. Five seconds later, he tries to take a bite out of it. But he sees that it is no longer in his hand (he does not remember eating it). When he sees SpongeBob's bar he thinks that it is his and that SpongeBob stole it, just like he stole the balloon all those hours ago. With both of them against each other now, there's only one thing left to do. One of them has to get blamed for stealing that balloon.
+
Squidward decides to invite Patrick and SpongeBob to a dinner party (without telling either of them that the other is coming) in order to repair their friendship. When they arrive, they are still mad at each other. Squidward tries to get them back together by having them drink soda, but the situation quickly devolves into a competition to see who can drink the most soda and thus become Squidward's best friend. Squidward eventually runs out of soda and leaves to get some more. While he is gone, SpongeBob and Patrick hiccup small bubbles that make a burping sound when they burst. They find this amusing and become friends again, but because they drank so many glasses of pop (SpongeBob drank 14 glasses and Patrick drank 12), their burps create a whole load of bubbles that make Squidward's house collapse. Although Squidward never put his key in the door, he is able to open it anyway. He sees the whole place destroyed and tells himself that he made a mistake. SpongeBob and Patrick declare that they are best friends again. After Squidward furiously tells them to get out of his house, he angrily slams the door. Then, a bubble hits the door, which falls on Squidward's back. Squidward then cries, "Oh, my back!"

+
They both run back to Bikini Bottom and to the police station. Before one of them can be blamed, they both confess together. Rather than be placed in jail forever, the police tell them that it is "National Free Balloon Day". As they were given lollipops, SpongeBob and Patrick vow that they will never take anything without permission ever again.

*In the original edit of the show, while SpongeBob and Patrick are talking about what they are leaving behind, SpongeBob says "no more getting nailed" and then showed Patrick hammering a nail and board to his forehead.  For whatever reasons (most likely suggestive content and/or violence), this was later edited to just SpongeBob saying "no more getting nailed" and then showing Patrick with just a blank stare. Now, he does not even say that and he says "no more getting mail".  The most likely reason for this is that "getting nailed" is actually an expression for being involved in sexual intercourse.
