Trivia/Goofs
- The plot of this episode appears to be a parody of classic zombie movies such as 28 Days Later, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Zombieland.
- Around the end, most of the Bikini Bottomites who were not "infected" by Mad Snail Disease fled and locked themselves in the Krusty Krab. This is what happened in Dawn of the Dead.
- This episode is similar to the viral outbreak in the Resident Evil series, when Raccoon City is infected with a virus and all of the citizens became zombies. Also, when SpongeBob is first attacked by the zombies, some of the zombies are dressed in police uniform, which is similar to the zombies in Resident Evil 2.
- Mad Snail Disease is a parody of Mad Cow Disease, or BSE, which is a fatal brain disease seen in cattle. The symptoms for snails are like rabies.
- The people evacuating Bikini Bottom could be references to numerous films of the 'Disaster movie' genre, notably Armageddon, Deep Impact, Independence Day, and War of the Worlds.
- The evacuation itself may be also be a reference to the Houston, Texas evacuation of the very dangerous Hurricane Rita in 2005.
- Patrick says to Squidward that he has severely untrimmed toenails but Squidward does not have human-like feet, he has tentacles.
- This is the second time Mr.Krabs' butt is tortured. The first was Clams.
- The episode's title is a parody of the phrase Once Bitten, Twice Shy.
- When SpongeBob watches TV outside the store, a brown angler fish is also one of the characters who got turned into a zombie.
- Dr. Gill Gilliam's name seems to be taken from the name of Squidward's rival, Squilliam Fancyson. Squilliam and Gilliam both rhyme with William.
- When Dr. Gill Gilliam pulls the splinter out of Gary, it turns into a giant pointed log.
- At the end of the episode, in the Krusty Krab, the doors were locked. However, Squidward is able to enter. Since nobody unlocked the door,it is possible that Squidward had a key to the place.
- When Squidward surrounds himself with large logs covered with barbed wire, Gary is seen climbing up one of them without barbed wire. How is that also possible?
- S.E. and S.D.E stands for snail expert and snail disease expert respectively.
- This is the Second Episode to feature "zombies". The first was in Nasty Patty and the third was in The Krusty Sponge.
- In this episode, Dr. Gill Gilliam is shown in an orange color. In other episodes, he is purple.
- Sandy is absent from this episode.
- Gary and Squidward get along in most episodes after this.
- There is a fish that is wearing scuba gear, but in later scenes he is missing.
- Medley and his wife are seen in a traffic jam , to get out of the city.
- How could a whole log fit in Gary?
- Somehow, the 'zombies' who were outside of the Krusty Krab seem to know everything that Gill Gilliam said, even though they were locked out. Maybe the Krusty Krab is not soundproof or they can lip read?
- Somehow, Bikini Bottom lights on fire whenever there is a riot either due to the fish starting one or something they are scared of starting one. For example, in Wormy they were scared of Wormy so the city went on fire.
