The Paper (Episode)

"The Paper" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season one. It premiered on February 14, 2000. Template:Spoiler Brief summary: Squidward gives a piece of paper to SpongeBob, and promises that he doesn't want it back. But when SpongeBob has lots of fun with it, Squidward begins to regret the promise and has to think of a way to get the paper back!

Plot

Squidward throws a bubble gum wrapper on SpongeBob's lawn. When SpongeBob discovers it, he asks Squidward if he wants it back. However, Squidward tells Spongebob he can have it. However, Spongebob now tells him on the Shell Phone, and Squidward has his long and final persuasion to give the paper to Spongebob ``Take it Spongebob, yes, take it please, I promise you no matter how much I may beg, and plead, and cry, don't give that paper back to me......Ever!and Spongebob agrees to confirm his promise. Squidward is about to play Mary Had a Little Lamb but Spongebob is laughing about all the fun he is thinking about that he's going to soon have.

Squidward laughs and enjoys his own time reading Boring Science, taking a bath, and drawing art. While drawing, Squidward accidentally paints himself having fun with a piece of paper. When he breaks it, the Squidward painting's mouth is open and invisibily cries by his death. Squidward watches him have lots and lots of fun until the Mary Had A Little Lamb duet.

Squidward tries to get it back but Spongebob keeps his promise. Squidward trades in everything back, and finally his own shirt-cloth and Spongebob can't help it decides to break his promise. Squidward tries to have fun with the paper but can't, he traded everything for the worthless piece of paper for nothing and soon Patrick took the paper from Squidward and uses it to put his gum on it and Patrick comes over to Spongebob to play.

Squidward is now all alone and the season is beginning to become WINTER!!

Little Squidward: I don't know, but have you looked in the mirror lately?

• Squidward: Take it SpongeBob, take it PLEASE. And promise me no matter how much I may beg, and plead, and cry... DON'T give the paper back to me. EVER.

SpongeBob: So I'll take that as a possible no? (Squidward slowly closes the door on Spongebob) Squidward? Squidward? (through door) Okay, Squidward! That's a promise I'll just have to keep! (to the paper) Ah, Mr. Paper. I am so lucky to have a friend like Squidward!

• Along with I Was a Teenage Gary, this episode is not broadcast as much, because it is paired with a holiday episode.
• It is revealed that SpongeBob has always liked Squidward's shirt.
• Spongebob did many things with the paper. Here is a list of what did with it:

• Played paper paddle-ball with it (SpongeBob did this by blowing the paper up and down.)

• The alternate title is Lemons Out Of the Lemonade.
• Squidward gave everything away. However, in later episodes, he has everything. Maybe Spongebob gave them back... (Even the shirt he liked.) But then, the series doesn't follow a storyline.Maybe Squidward might have got new things instead.
  • In Christmas Who? he gave everything away too.
• Little Squidward is a referance to another character in another SpongeBob episode, Mini Squidward in Squid Wood
• This is the first time Gary plays Squidward's clarinet.
• Little Squidward is similar to the toy acting in Toy Story.
• Little Squidward is the older brother of Mini Squidward, and the 2 wooden Squidward toys are enemies of the real Squidward.
• The paper cartoon proof Spongebob shows is very accurate, even with the same music!
• Spongebob's monkey face impression while standing on his pineapple home is a possible parody of King Kong.
• SpongeBob says he'll play A Minor, which means the music sounds sad, but it is in C Major.

Goofs

• In the first scene Squidward is playing his clarinet with lots of other ugly drawings of him behind him.In the second scene

Squidward is playing his clarinet,there is only one huge ugly drawing behind him and all the other drawings are gone.

• After Spongebob's paper tells a good wet paper joke,lots of other Bikini Bottomites come.During the short laugh,the most

eastern and farthest away Fred Fish doesn't open his mouth to laugh while all the other fish do.
