Plot

The Plot doesn't differ anything much from the movie, however there are a few differences. First, instead of getting 'The Magical Bag Of Winds' the narrator tells you the bag that Mindy gave you was instead a magical shell that acts much like a TV so Spongebob & Patrick can keep in touch with Mindy. Second, Mindy DOES have magic but she needs 'Goofy Goober Tokens' found throughout the game to activate them. Third, David Hasselhoff does make an appearance, and there is one level where you play on his back, however instead of sending you directly down into the Krusty Krab 2, Hasselhoff simply let them down to navigate Planktopolis alone. While these plot differences take away from the original story, it's probably just to keep the player entertained after the game ends. Much like the formula Battle for Bikini Bottom brought with it.

Levels

The SpongeBob Art Pack. The player can put SpongeBob in the costumes of the second, third, seventh, and eighth.
The Patrick Art Pack. Patrick has the costumes of the second and fifth.

Console

1. No Cheese! (Level 1. This level is mainly about Spongebob's dream of being the manager for the Krusty Krab 2. Your average tutorial, right? Basics is the main objective, you know, running, attacking, jumping, etc. Just listen to Mindy and you'll do fine. Good luck!)

2.I'm Ready, Depression... (Level 2. It's the first level where you play as Patrick, discovering the depths of the Goofy Goober ice cream shop and fighting new bad guys like the Fogger and Slammer. Plus you get to elarn the Cartwheel from a mysterious mermaid named Mindy for 2 Goofy Goober Tokens.)

3.Sandwich Driving 101 (Driving 1. SpongeBob and Patrick start their journey to Shell City, a place nobody has ever returned from, to return King Neptune's crown. Now you have to drive through the city while construction is going on using the Patty Wagon.)

4.Three... Thousand Miles to Shell City (Level 3. SpongeBob is granted the Bash move for 5 Goofy Goober Tokens. With his new move, he must defeat the new enemy Flinger, and journey through the dangerous desert and destroy Plankton's radio towers, which are hypnotizing random desert citizens into coming to what used to be Bikini Bottom and is now the dangerous, horrible city Planktopolis, ruled by Plankton, to eat at the Chum Bucket, only to be enslaved by the tiny green guy and his bucket helmets.)

5.Rub a Dub Dub, Slip Slide in the Tub (Slide 1. Slide down a winding, dangerous track in the desert in a bathtub with Patrick and ram into targets headfirst to destroy more of Plankton's radio towers.)

6.Bubble Blowing Baby Hunt (Level 4. Patrick is granted the (Bad Word #11 from Sailor Mouth) Slam that he can use to defeat the new enemy, Spinner, and more objects like buttons, etc. And now he's got to go through the scary Thug Tug filled with the roughest and toughest fish in the sea. Yikes!)

7.No Weenie Parking Any Time (Driving 2. SpongeBob and Patrick enter the Patty Wagon again to search for keys spread out around a moonlit road near the Thug Tug so they can open the gates to continue their journey.)

8.I'll Let You Pet Mr. Whiskers (Boss-Frog Fish. Patrick must defeat the Frog Fish, who captured SpongeBob, who is now on the Frog Fish's back. Whenever the Frog Fish stops to take a rest near the edge, push him over with a Star Spin. Good Luck! In the cutscene after you defeat the Frog Fish, the Frog Fish swallows the Patty Wagon which our heroes abandoned, only to be swallowed by a bigger monster. What will they do without the Patty Wagon?)

9.Rock Slide (Slide 2. Now you have to slide down a winding, dangerous path leading down to the trench on a pink shell. Go through the guts of monsters, see scary monsters near the path, avoid steam holes, and find a way out of this terrifying place!)

10.Now That We're Men (Level 5. In here, SpongeBob is granted the Spongebowl move for 20 Goofy Goober Tokens. It will help him defeat Poppers, new enemies that teleport when SpongeBob goes near them. Also, you can destroy Plan Z Computers that shrink if you go near them. And, you will use the SpongeBowl to ride on the back of a monster over lava, and defeat two minibosses: One is a giant lobster, and the other has many eyes. Like Mindy said, the Spongebowl is handy for destroying things you don't want to go near!)

11.Shell City, Dead Ahead (Level 6. Now Patrick has to traverse a dark, miserable, underwater junkyard. He'll learn the Throw move if he has 25 Goofy Goober Tokens. You can throw Throw Fruit to hit buttons that Patrick can't Star Spin to hit, destroy the toughest enemy yet: MERV. It's a buckethead operating a floating robot that shoots laser at you if you go near it, hit a special button to temporarily lower the window on a ripped off car door sitting in a dark substance, hit a floating button from a long, slippery pipe with steam coming from cracks, stack them up to lower a platform, and destroy Plankton's monumental TVs that, very much like his radio towers from "Three...Thousand Miles to Shell City", hypnotizes people to come to Planktopolis to be brainwashed by Plankton and becoming his slave like many poor fellows who listened to his radio towers and TVs before Patrick came.)

12.Name's Dennis (Boss-Dennis. Fight Dennis, who is using poor SpongeBob as a fly swatter-type thing to hit dirty toilets at you. There is a Throw Fruit in the middle of the arena, but it's easier to hit the toilets back at him when he hits them to you. Spinners will be spawned in the middle of the level, but their more of an interference if you choose to throw Throw Fruit at Dennis.)

13.Sundae Driving (Driving 3. Dennis is flattened by the "bigger boot" who turns out to be the foot of the "cyclops", who is really a diver. The diver captures SpongeBob and Patrick, when the two faint. They dream that they're in a Goofy Goober amusement park. In their dream, they have the Patty Wagon. They also can't find a way to get out, so they have to follow the Goofy Goober through three laps in the park to find the exit, and they can't let him out of their sight or else they'll have to start the whole level. During the second lap, the Goofy Goober goes through a pink gate, which opens to reveal a new path. During the third lap, the giant peanut breaks a waterslide, so our heroes must chase him up the waterslide.)

14.Googly-Eyes and Smelly Knick-Knacks (Slide 3. SpongeBob and Patrick wake up to find themselves in Shell City-which turns out to be a gift shop on land that sells sun-dried sea creatures. That means our heroes are going to be killed next! They soon find King Neptune's crown and must now slide down a path made up of twisting, turning and winding hoses and wires to escape through a crack in the window. They must turn 3 faucets to turn on the sprinklers and save the cyclops' victims and hit four lamps to make a bridge so SpongeBob and Patrick can cross a large gap in the track.)

15.Dennis's Strikes Back (Boss-Dennis #2. SpongeBob and Patrick are on David Hasslehoff's back, who is giving them a ride to Planktopolis. But the "bigger boot" that came off of the cyclops during the revenge of the sun-dried sea creatures appeaears on David's foot and Dennis comes out from the bottom! Patricks is blown away by wind but grabs onto David's foot for dear life. Meanwhile, Dennis attacks SpongeBob by throwing burning knives at him. He can just hit them back at Dennis, which is the easiest way. Just defeat the Slammers whenever they are spawned later in the level. There's a Krabby Patty on each of David's arms if you need any. After the battle is over, Dennis gets hit by a low bridge and falls into the water and probably drifts deep down into an unknown place under the sea. But soon David drops them back into the water and they land back in Planktopolis...)

16.Welcome To Planktopolis....Minions (Level 6. SpongeBob is granted the Sonic Wave Guitar for 40 Goofy Goober Tokens. He can use this to hit hard to reach buttons, and destroy Plankton's brainwashing statues. Some of the obstacles include sliding platforms, spikes, MERVs with firecracker launcher things, lasers, wall jumps with lasers on them, moving wall jumps, platforms that crash when touched, steam, conveyor belts, lava, brainwashing Plankton statues that shoot molten boulders from their eyes, and Plankton's riddle, where you must hit two buttons correctly to lead SpongeBob to safety. There are six buttons in the room, so choose carefully which buttons you think are the right ones, one obstacle which is a wall jump that has six parts which move up and down, and the ultimate Plankton statue which you fight on two floating conveyor belts. You must hit his eye with the Sonic Wave Guitar three times when he opens it to shoot a molten boulder at you. He can also electrocute conveyor belts, so be sure to stay clear of his electric. But keep in mind that you're on a conveyor belt, so when you're aiming for the statue's eye, don't fall off the edge.)

17.Drive of the Knucklehead McSpazatron (Driving 4. Our heroes are plopped back in the front seat of the Patty Wagon that Mindy returned for them for 50 Goofy Goober Tokens. They know they've got to get to the Krusty Krab before Mr. Krabs is killed by King Neptune. And they know they can't hit too much debris on the road or else they'll be warped back to the beginning of the road, and they'll be delayed. So be careful and good luck!)

18.Turn the Tables on Plankton (Final Boss-King Neptune. "I'll be safe from rain under my umbrella!" Plankton exclaims as he presses a button on his remote. Waiting for what will happen, Mindy, SpongeBob, and Patrick repeat "Umbrella?" as a gigantic bucket helmet comes out from the ceiling of the Krusty Krab and attaches itself to King Neptune as he turns towards our heroes with his sceptor ready for battle and says emotionlessly, "All hail Plankton" which means that SpongeBob must battle him. He'll use electric currents which you must dodge three times to make the massive ruler of the sea angry, where you'll control SpongeBob from his point of view as he attempts to shoot a laser at SpongeBob from a sniper on his sceptor. Dodge this and turn all the tables to face towards King Neptune, and hide behind the frozen Mr. Krabs to deflect the laser back at him, knocking him out. Now you must use the Sonic Wave Guitar on him to hurt him. Everything is pretty much the same until he breaks the floor. Now SpongeBob must dodge his electric currents while jumping from platform to platform, while also avoiding blue, slippery spit from Flingers that will be spawned. But SpongeBob won't change his tactics. Hide behind the frozen Mr. Krabs once you've turned all the tables and you'll do the same thing to defeat him. During the cutscene at the end, Plankton is put in a tiny police car and sent off to jail after being trampled by the crowd that had their helmets destroyed by SpongeBob's Sonic Wave Guitar after he floats into the air and blasts them all with the end of his guitar. Good luck...you'll need it.)

PC

1.Love thy Neighbor

2.Evil Under the Sea

3.Hitting the Road

4.Free Mindy

5.Entrenched

6.A Pain in the Back

7.Shell City

8.Planktopolis (Final Level)

OBJECTS:(Gamecube, Playstation, Xbox) THROW FRUIT: Patrick can throw this at anything, such as enemies, to destroy them. They can be seen in Bubble Blowing Baby Hunt, but are first interacted with in Shell City, Dead Ahead. FREEZY FRUIT: Patrick can throw this at a lake to freeze it so he can ice skate on it for a Goofy Goober Token. It can be seen in Now That We're Men, but can first be interacted with once Patrick learns the Throw move in Shell City, Dead Ahead and returns to this level for the "Frozen Lava Desert" challenge. MANLINESS POINTS: The points in this game. The red one is the most common and is worth 1 point, the yellow one is the second most common and is worth 2 points, the green one is uncommon and worth 5 points, the violet one is more rare and worth 10 points, and the hot pink one is the rarest and worth 50 points. They are first introduced in No Cheese! GOOFY GOOBER TOKENS:Patrick and SpongeBob can collect these to unlock new moves and levels. First introduced in No Cheese! BUTTONS: Our heroes can hit these to activate something. Some require certain moves to hit. First introduced in No Cheese! PLAN Z CRATES: The most common crate that can be destroyed with any move. First introduced in No Cheese! BALLOON BOXES: Also common and float in the air. They were originally meant to be destroyed by SpongeBob's Bash move and served as sort of a practice type thing when he first learned the move in Three... Thousand Miles to Shell City where Balloon Boxes were first introduced. STEEL CHUM BUCKET SAFES: Not very common and introduced in later levels in the game. They can be destroyed by the Spongebowl once it's ugpraded, the Sonic Wave Guitar when it's upgraded, or if Patrick throws an explosive at it. First introduced in Shell City, Dead Ahead. EXPLOSIVES: Common in some levels. Can be destroyed by any move, but preferrably a long-distance one as they explode on contact with an object so our heroes could get hurt if they destroyed them with the Bash, Star Spin, Karate Spin, or (Bad Word #11 from Sailor Mouth) Slam. First introduced in Bubble Blowing Baby Hunt. TELEPORT BOXES: If SpongeBob or Patrick jumped in one of these, it would take them to another Teleport Box in the level. But it only works if both boxes in the level are found. First introduced in No Cheese! NITROS: When our heroes are in the Patty Wagon, they can collect Nitros. If you press R (on the Gamecube) and if you have any Nitros, you can drive at hyper speed for a few seconds. First introduced in Sandwich Driving 101. TREASURE CHESTS: Our heroes can collect these to unlock extras, such as previews for the SpongeBob movie, costumes, concept art, and more. But they're normally hidden or in dangerous places so when getting them, our heroes have to be careful. Introduced in No Cheese! KRABBY PATTY When our heroes get hurt, they need a little snack. Collect a Krabby Patty to replenish one of their health slots. For example, if SpongeBob has upgraded to four health slots, and he has two health slots left, if he grabs a Krabby Patty, it will restore him back to three health slots. Introduced in No Cheese! PLAN Z COMPUTERS When SpongeBob or Patrick go near these shy computers, they shrink so they cannot attack them. They must use a long-range attack to destroy them. Introduced in Now That We're Men PORT-O-HEAD When SpongeBob walks into a Port-O-Head, Patrick will wak out. When Patrick walks in, SpongeBob walks out. It's helpful. For example, if you were Patrick and you came across a Sonic Wave Guitar Challenge, you could change to SpongeBob in a Port-O-Head, and that example is exactly what it is used for. First introduced in I'm Ready...Depression. WALL JUMP SIGNS Whenever SpongeBob sees this sign, it means he has to wall jump against two walls to get to higher ground.

Enemies

  • Jellyfish - In "Battle for Bikini Bottom" Jellyfish were mostly props unless you decided to bother them, in which case they would hurt you. Blue Jellyfish would also move faster and sting no matter what. In this video game, there are only Pink Jellyfish and they sting no matter what. Later on in the game, Spongebob & Patrick encounter Jellyfish with Bucket Helmets on them.
  • Foggers - Foggers are heavy, overweight monsters that attack Spongebob & Patrick by Belching, their burps can be seen as they are represented by green gas. While they move incredibly slowly, and are easy to defeat, they can sometimes bounce. Most take one hit to defeat, but as the game progresses, one can take at least 3 hits to kill. They usually laugh a lot, when you get hurt or try to hurt them but hardly get affective. This could possibly be a minor glitch).
  • Slammers - Slammers are monsters that carry hammers around. If their hammer strike doesn't get you, the slam it makes will. They move at an average speed, and can be most vulnerable after a missed hit. They commonly wave and do tricks with their hammers and yell "Hey, hey, hey, hey!"
  • Spinners - Spinners are owners of worms, and while they walk around at peace, if SpongeBob or Patrick annoy them, they will swing their worms around until they hit you, which they will remain idle for a few seconds and give you a chance to hit them. They sometimes laugh quietly to themselves.
  • Flingers - Flingers are monsters who fly in the air, and must be killed by Spongebob's bash move or Patrick's throw move. They vomit yellow (or green) goo. It does harm Spongebob & Patrick and also makes them slip & slide until the puke wears off.
  • Turrets - Turrets hide in turned over trash cans with guns. They fire a few then go back into the can, the most common strategy is to jump over the shots as they move incredibly slow. The turret monsters is one of the few monsters who don't say anything. Unlike other enemies, their appearance NEVER change, regardless of the stages.
  • Poppers - Poppers speak a strange unknown language that can't be explained. The monsters travel with a spray gun which fires projectiles. They can be avoided easily, but trying to get rid of the monster is not. Teleportation monsters will teleport if gotten too close too. Reminiscent of the Shh... Tiki crates from "Battle for Bikini Bottom" the best strategy is to hit him with a long-range attack.
  • Merv - Similar to Flingers, only they have lock-on abilities and shoot a laser in Shell City, Dead Ahead. In Welcome to Planktopolis... Minions, however, they also shoot slow-moving projectiles, most likley fireworks.
  • Rollers - Rollers are similar to Patrick's cartweel move. Destroy with 10 hits when they get dizzy.
  • Bowlers - Bowlers bowl balls that can kill you.
  • Spawners - The Spawners are monsters that stay in one place, and have a cannon on top. They have an unlimited supply of enemies, and can be destroyed with just one hit. Despite this, once hit, Players are advised to get away as quick as possible, because soon after the Spawner explodes, causing an explosion which will harm Spongebob or Patrick.Though, Spawners look more like machines, and should probably be considered as machines. Like some enemies, their appearance changes throughout the game. But at Combat Arena Challenge, There are Giant Spawners that can be only destroyed by completing all the waves (Despite the size, you only get 1 macho point for it.)

Bosses

  • Frog Fish
  • Thug #1 (GBA only)
  • Thug #2 (GBA only)
  • Dennis (You have to fight him twice)
  • Cyclops (GBA only)
  • King Neptune

Skills

SpongeBob

Karate Spin : Basic spin attack with gloves. When upgraded becomes a metal gloves that will deflect projectiles.

Bash : SpongeBob will use boxing gloves to attack enemies from above. Later when upgraded will become a spiked glove that will stick and explode.

SpongeBowl : Rolls a bowling ball that pushes buttons & destroys crates and enemies. Later it will become a spiked and explode in within range if upgraded.

Sonic Wave Guitar : SpongeBob uses a electric guitar and a portable amp and will shoot a wave that will destroy things and enemies. When upgraded will become the goofy goober guitar & shoot longer and more damage.

Patrick

Starfish Spin : His basic attack. He will spin around. When upgraded it will deflect projectiles.

Cartwheel : Patrick will do a cartwheel that will destroy many enemies and crates. When upgraded will look like a comet and destroy things nearby.

(Bad Word #11 from Sailor Mouth) Smash: Will destroy things from above. This is the best way to destroy spinners. When upgraded he will slam from his head that will stun enemies nearby.

Throw : Patrick will pick up items and throw them at crates or enemies. When upgraded he will spin around and will shoot further targets & more power.

Mini-games

  • SpongeBall Challenge - SpongeBall Challenges turn Spongebob into a ball, and force him to navigate terrain. The Sponge-ball idea was based off the SpongeBall power-up in "Battle for Bikini Bottom" which had to be used to solve certain tasks.
  • Floating Block Challenge - Floating Block Challenges put a random assortment of blocks in the air, and makes Patrick navigate through them. While the concept sounds easy, some blocks turn to confuse players, while others flip to throw off players. Blocks with hurtful spikes, moving blocks, trampoline blocks, frozen blocks & bubble blocks appear in levels too.
  • Combat Arena Challenge - Combat Arena Challenge are games where there are 3 waves of enemies. During this time, the player must fight off the enemies and try to live for the 3 waves. The setting appears to be in Jellyfish Fields, but in one case, Jellyfish Fields in the night. The arena games are, in a way a 'sneek peek' for what the future enemies will appear like. (For example, the enemies in the Thug Tug arena challenge are what the enemies will look in the Trench).
  • Bungee Challenge - SpongeBob must use a fishing hook as a bungee to dive into and smash targets, but must watch for steam or lasers.
  • Sonic Wave Guitar Challange - SpongeBob must use his Sonic Wave Guitar move and steer through an large line of rings to get from the end of the level to a target at the beginning of the level. (He needs the move before he can do it.)

Trivia

  • Jellyfish with bucket heads were never shown or even mentioned in the actual movie.
  • In the level "Dennis Strikes Back" where the player is on the back of David Hasselholf, if one jumps far enough, they can see David Hasselholf's face.
  • The Bash Move slightly makes a reference to the episode I'm Your Biggest Fanatic because the Bash Move is Spongebob with a boxing glove, and the upgraded move is spongebob with a metallic boxing glove with spikes. These two items are seen simultaneously in that episode.
  • In the level "No Cheese" Patrick is seen floating with the same flag he had in the movie. However, the Level "No Cheese" takes place in a dream, and Patrick actually floating takes place in real life, after the the dream.
  • In the 3rd level, while driving, Monuments of Plankton can be seen already being built. Now, to assume that the takeover was already starting would be wrong since the invasion doesn't even start until after Spongebob & Patrick visit the Thug Tug however, in the desert levels before the Thug Tug, bucket heads are already being seen.
  • In the final arena mini-game named, "Ultimate Arena Challange" you find near the start of "Welcome to Planktopolis... Minions" you play as Patrick and there is only one enemy, which is simply a jellyfish which seems incredibly ironic since the following arena challenges have been incredibly tough.
  • In concept art for "Planktopolis" the level was supposed to look darker and more dystopian, however the music perfectly represents as is.
  • Some events in the game can only be done once. Such as the car crash at the start of "No Cheese"
  • The game is featured in Happy Squared Double Pack.
  • Many enemies are similar to those from Battle for Bikini Bottom such as Slammer and Hammer. In fact, this game uses the same graphics from it.
  • In the Shell City: Dead Ahead level, some robots from Battle for Bikini Bottom (the Fodder model) make cameo appearances as rotting garbage. This indicates that Plankton's remaining robots from the previous game were effectively destroyed, and were dumped in this area.
  • In the slide levels, if the player dies, SpongeBob and Patrick's ride flip over. This might have been inspired by Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, where if the player dies, Kirby and Waddle Dee's ride flip over.
