• This episode celebrates the 20th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants.
• Prior to this episode, a Season 2 episode focused on SpongeBob’s birthday, entitled SpongeBob’s Birthday, was planned but never went into production.
• At the end of the episode, a number of celebrities appear to wish SpongeBob a happy birthday, including Tiffany Haddish, Sigourney Weaver, JoJo Siwa, Michael Strahan, RuPaul, Kel Mitchell and Gilbert Gottfried.
• This episode is dedicated in memory of show creator Stephen Hillenburg, who passed away on November 26, 2018, almost eight months before this special aired. A thank you message saying "Thank you Steve Hillenburg" appears at the very end of the episode.
• The thank you message at the end says "Steve Hillenburg" instead of "Stephen Hillenburg".
