Potty the Parrot
Polly the Parrot is an annoying puppet friend of Patchy the Pirate. Polly usually tries to correct any mistakes Patchy made, or simply makes fun of him. Potty was the one who hired The Birdbrains in "SpongeBob's House Party" and became one of the staff in the Poop Deck, as seen in the Patchy segments of "Friend or Foe?" the viewers are constantly reminded that Polly is a puppet, almost as if it was a small running gag in the show. Patchy once broke their friendship because Polly does not support him, as seen in "Friend or Foe?" Polly seems to love any genres of music he can dance to, such as rap or heavy metal. He's voiced by SpongeBob's creator, Stephen Hillenburg and Paul Tibbitt (Season 5).
"Running Gag"
There have been a few instances where the viewer seems to be reminded that Polly is a puppet. Mysteriously, Polly is usually backed to normal in only a few minutes. A few of these reminders are seen below:
- In "Christmas Who?," Patchy the pirate cuts the strings that Potty is attached to.
- In that same episode, Patchy also pulls on the strings, causing what seems to be a cast member falling from the ceiling.
- Again, in the same episode, Polly had eaten so much food batter that his entire body fell from the weight, leaving only his head attached.
- In the end of special segment entitled "Patchy's Pick," Polly is blown up by dynamite, which again causes his whole body to fall, excluding his head.
- In every Polly appearance, you can clearly see the puppet strings that he is attached to.
