The Cyclops gazing down at Spongebob and Patrick

The Cyclops (portrayed by Neil Ross) is a large, male diver with vintage hardhat diving equipment who appeared in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie as the tertiary antagonist. The anonymous diver owns the dreaded Shell City and is feared by all inhabitants of the sea, mainly because he looks frightening, is gigantic compared to marine animals, captures sea creatures, and dries them out under a constantly burning heat lamp in Shell City to sell them as "smelly knick-knacks (as seen in the movie)."

History

We discovered his existence in the beginning of the movie when Mindy warns our protagonists about the hazards of travelling to Shell City with the Cyclops having a spot all for himself. Later in the movie, just when Dennis and his cleated,"big boot", was about to kill Spongebob and Patrick, we finally see the heinous diver, more specifically, his,"bigger boot", saving our duo by stepping on Dennis. Patrick was just about to make a run for it, when Spongebob notified him that the hardhat diver's gigantic boot had saved them from being stepped on by Dennis. They showed gratitude towards the pernicious diver for saving them , referring to the Cyclops originally as, "Stranger", for not knowing the Cyclops' true identity at the moment. Realization struck Spongebob and Patrick when the Cyclops looked directly down at our two protagonists (most likely because he finally heard Spongebob when he asked,"Uh, Stranger?"), discovering that this abnormally large, "Stranger", who rescued them from the evil Dennis, was the giant Cyclops guarding Shell City of Princess Mindy's warning. Spongebob and Patrick tried to run away, but failed and the Cyclops picked them up and proceeded to the infamous gift shop. Our duo (who recently fainted) were stuffed in a bag, and driven to Shell City. The Cyclops held Spongebob and Patrick captive in a glass bowl in Shell City. First, he decided to scare our two heroes for amusement, so he snuck up behind them, exaggurated his breathing, and scared the two. He then took out his toolbox containing his, "evil instruments of torture", to show his buisness with Spongebob and Patrick by making a diorama of, "Alexander Clam Bell", out of a dead clam, googley eyes, and glue in front of the duo's glass bowl while happily humming to show them what he does and that they were next. Once he had done these two things, he grabbed Spongebob and Patrick and placed them under his heat lamp so they would dry up and die. Before their death, they both shed a single tear which later rolled down the heat lamp's wire and shorted out a power outlet that smoked up causing the fire sprinklers to set off. Apparently they're in the bathroom too because as the two proceeded to lift Neptune's crown, you see the Cyclops (who was in the bathroom while the duo was slowly drying up) picking it up and giving Spongebob and Patrick a growl before the sea creatures the Cyclops had killed were revived and began to beat him up as revenge. During the scene where the two ride David Hasselhoff, the Cyclops', "bigger boot", emerged from the water with Dennis on the bottom.

Looks

The Cyclops is very large, wears worn down, vintage hardhat diving gear (rough gloves, dented, brass helmet, weighted boots, grimy suit, faded understrap, slightly loose weight control belt, etc.) and doesn't even take it off on land, possibly because he is too excited about selling his knick-knacks or just to scare the marine animals he captures for entertainment or to maintain dominance among them. He is known as the Cyclops because the obvious assumption, made by fish and other marine animals, that he has one eye (which is really the single, florescent green window in his diving helmet)--a reference to the ancient Greek myths about Cyclopes.

Lines

The Cyclops hardly has any lines in the movie at all. You mostly just hear him evilly laugh and breathe heavily. His other lines are just a growl, humming,"Huh?", and,"Uh-oh."
