The song is featured in the SpongeBob SquarePants episodes Doing Time and SpongeGuard on Duty. In Doing Time, Fred is shown listening to "Surfin’ Summer (a)" while mopping in Shady Shoals. An instrumental version of the song, "Surfin’ Summer (b)", is used in the title card of SpongeGuard on Duty.
