Stephen Hillenburg (*21 August 1961) is the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants.
Hillenburg also directed and produced the Nicktoon Rocko's Modern Life.
He was a marine biology teacher at what is now the Orange County Ocean Institute. He worked as a marine biologist from 1984-1987. In 1987, Hillenburg switched his career to animation and came up with one of the best shows of all time.
On May 1, 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants aired on Nickelodeon.
After the airing of SpongeBob Meets the Strangler/Pranks a Lot, SpongeBob had went on a brief hiatus because of a Floridian girl who went to a beach. She then went into the ocean because she wanted to meet SpongeBob. She drowned and died. This could have destroyed the shows reputatation but did not.
Because of SpongeBob SquarePants's airing, it became a more popular cartoon than Rugrats.
