Plot
This episode consists of the content shown on the Krusty Krab's training video for new employees. The tape talks about the history of the restaurant, from its founding to the present day. The tape also gives instructions on how to keep the workplace clean, and how to have good hygiene. In this version of the tape, SpongeBob is desperate to make a Krabby Patty for the tape(as he wants to show himself off to the viewers), and asks to do so many times, each time being told no. At the episode's end, the moment SpongeBob has been waiting for arrives, but the episode ends just before the narrator reveals the Krabby Patty secret formula for the new employees.
Quotes
- Spongebob: Can I make a Krabby Patty no- (cut by the narrator)
- Narrator: And now we go from behind the scenes to the front lines, where we’ll examine the most important aspect of the industry; the customer, or as we say around here, the Krustomer.
- Patrick: (who has just walked into the Krusty Krab) Who said that? Are you a ghost?
- Narrator: Like precious, precious blood in an animal, the customer is what makes the Krusty Krab strong and alive.
- Patrick: Squidward, your ceiling is talking to me!
- Squidward: Are you going to order something or make friends with the paneling?
- Squidward: Patrick, if I could make a suggestion, why don't you order a Krabby Patty?
- Patrick: Great idea, Squidward! One Krabby Patty, please.
- Squidward: (sighs) Is that be for here or to go? (Quickly covers mouth)
- Patrick: Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
(Patrick continues saying "Uh" while Squidward bangs his head on the cash register)
- Narrator: And now, you get to make, with your very own hands, the scrumptious, lip-moistening, spine-tingling, heart-stopping pleasure center that is the Krabby Patty! Are you ready? (SpongeBob nods furiously) Are you SURE?! (SpongeBob nods so furiously he almost tears his head in two) OKAY! The Krabby Patty secret formula is... (episode ends mid-sentence)
Cultural References
- The sign in the bathroom written in English ("Please, wash your fins") and Spanish ("Lave las aletas") is a parody of other similar signs found in companies like Wal-Mart. The Spanish part of the sign is not a totally correct translation because it literally says "Wash the fins". A more polite translation of "Please, wash your fins" is "Por favor, lávese las aletas."
- The music for the title card is similar to that of the theme from Nickelodeon SNICK.
Trivia/Goofs
- A lot of the viewers, when they watched this episode at first, thought that this was set when SpongeBob was hired and he is being told how to work at the Krusty Krab. The actual plot is, Mr. Krabs has filmed a training video for future employees and SpongeBob is actually showing the viewers how to do it to show off. The narrator praises him, so the viewers know this is correct.
- Revealed in SpongeBob SquarePants: The Complete Third Season as the #1 episode in the show chronology so far.
- POOP stands for "People Order Our Patties." The Spanish version is CACA, which stands for "Clientes Adoran Comer Aquí." Those words mean "Customers love eating here", "caca" is a slang term for feces in Spanish.
- At the end of the episode, it is sometimes mistaken after the end credits that it is credited to have been animated by Spiffy Pictures, Little Airplane Productions, Billifords, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Animation, and Klasky Csupo (with logos shown) instead of United Plankton Pictures when it is broadcast on Nickelodeon. This was corrected in 2006, when United Plankton Pictures is now listed as the producers of this episode. The reason the incorrect logos were inserted is that the show's closing credits were electronically inserted alongside promos for other Nick programming, followed by the show's closing logos, which were also electronically inserted. When the data was entered for this episode, the wrong logo was programmed in.
- Comcast refers to this episode as Crusty Crab Training Video.
