Stephen Hillenburg (born August 21, 1961) is the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Hillenburg also directed and produced the Nicktoon Rocko's Modern Life.

He was a marine biology teacher at what is now the Orange County Ocean Institute. He worked as a marine biologist from 1984-1987. In 1987, Hillenburg switched his career to animation.

On May 1, 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants aired on Nickelodeon.

After the airing of SpongeBob Meets The Strangler/Pranks A Lot, SpongeBob had a brief hiatus because of a Floridian girl who went to a beach. She then went into the ocean because she wanted to meet SpongeBob. She drowned and died.

Because of SpongeBob SquarePants's airing, it became a more popular cartoon than Rugrats.

Thanks Mr. Hillenburg!
