Painted parrot
The painted parrot is Painty the Pirate's pet parrot who appears at the beginning of the show's opening sequence.
Description
The parrot is painted to look like a realistic parrot. It is mostly green with a yellow belly, black eyes, a black beak, and has some white color on its face. It lies on the shoulder of Painty.
History
Counting the opening sequence, the painted parrot appears in every episode of the series, as well as in the second film.
In the book Oh, Barnacles!, Painty reveals that his parrot is very mischievous and loves to play games, but often cheats to win. He also says that he and his parrot have been stuck inside of a painting for multiple years, referencing the long run of SpongeBob SquarePants.
In the book Blizzard Bluster!: SpongeBob's Book of Frosty Funnies, Painty says that his parrot once went to an ice skating rink to play "ice squawky," a bird-themed parody of ice hockey.
Trivia
- The bird did not appear in the theme song for the episodes Truth or Square (which uses its own special intro and a cover of the theme song performed by Cee-Lo Green) and The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom.
