Plot
One night, SpongeBob watches a scary movie called "Night of the Robot", which involves robots taking over the world. Gary tells SpongeBob he shouldn’t watch it, as scary movies freak him out, but SpongeBob denies this. However, he later shakes in fear in bed, wondering if everyone he knows is a robot. After asking Gary if he’s a robot, SpongeBob decides he has nothing to worry about and tries to get some sleep, but he has a nightmare about the same robot from the movie chasing him.

The next day at the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob has become very paranoid and believes that robots are "everywhere" with every sound jumpscaring him. Meanwhile, Mr. Krabs is in his office, listening to Electric Zoo on his portable radio; he likes the song and hums to it. SpongeBob later walks past Krabs' office and overhears him saying he feels "completely recharged." He then witnesses Krabs talking to his radio, talking in a "robot" language over the phone, and doing a bizarre robot-like dance to the song.

This convinces SpongeBob to believe that Mr. Krabs is a robot imposter, and he relays this information to Squidward. Squidward doesn’t believe him, so SpongeBob tries several tests to prove to his grumpy neighbor that Krabs is a robot. First, he tests Krabs' sense of humor by having Squidward tell a joke, but Krabs doesn’t laugh. SpongeBob says this is because he’a a robot, as robots don’t laugh, but Squidward says "he's obviously heard it before." SpongeBob then tests Mr. Krabs' emotions by telling him that Squidward's father never hugged him to see if he will cry. Krabs says that although it is a little sad, Squidward can hug himself during his break. This further worries SpongeBob, but Squidward says this is ridiculous and his father loved him very much. This reminds SpongeBob of the third and final test: the love test. SpongeBob tells Mr. Krabs that Squidward loves him, but he simply tells him to get back to work.

Back in his office, Mr. Krabs' radio breaks and he decides to give the batteries to Pearl as a Christmas present. A timer rings, and he grabs a pair of tongs and removes his hard-boiled egg from a pot of boiling water, ready to eat it. But just when Krabs is about to put some salt on the egg, he is startled when SpongeBob calls out his name a fourth time, and he accidentally tosses the full saltshaker into his eyes, causing him to scream in pain. Squidward then asks SpongeBob what the robots in the movie looked like, to which SpongeBob says they had red eyes, metal pinchers for hands, and batteries to run on. Squidward then asks if Krabs looks anything like that, and this is seemingly answered when Krabs barges out of his office screaming in pain with glowing bloodshot eyes, the tongs he used to hold the egg, and the radio batteries in his pocket. As Krabs runs to the bathroom, Squidward finally believes SpongeBob, and tells him to call the navy, but due to their automated telephone service, SpongeBob thinks that the robots have taken over the navy. Squidward then announces over the microphone that robots are taking over the world, causing all the customers to flee the Krusty Krab.

Mr. Krabs emerges from the bathroom, relieved that his eyes aren’t hurting anymore, and goes back to his office, not noticing that the Krusty Krab is now empty. Squidward then wonders how they will find out what happened to the "real" Mr. Krabs, and SpongeBob says that the main character in the movie teamed up with a buddy and they "got the poop on" (collected information from) the robot. After reading a book on How to Torture, the two go into Krabs' office and tie him up, demanding to know where the "real" Krabs is. After getting no answers and Krabs insisting that he is the real Krabs, SpongeBob and Squidward decide to interrogate his machines, which include a blender, a toaster, a food processor, and a coffee maker.

These, of course, don’t give any answers either (due to being inanimate objects). And so, Squidward destroys them all with a baseball bat. This greatly upsets Mr. Krabs, as he paid good money for each of them (except the coffee maker as he says it was actually a gift), and he finally breaks down crying when SpongeBob brings in his most valuable "robot": the cash register. He also mentions laughing with it and loving it, revealing he’s not a robot. Seeing that Krabs is telling the truth, Squidward asks SpongeBob how the movie ended. SpongeBob, while thinking the ending was great, remembers it revealed that the robot invasion was just in the characters' imagination, and that there were no robots after all.

Realizing his mistake, SpongeBob declares it’s time to feed Gary and runs off, leaving Squidward to take the heat from Mr. Krabs for pointlessly destroying the machines and falsely accusing him of being a robot. As a nervous Squidward grabs a broom and begins sweeping the mess, a furious Krabs growls and yells "Squidward!" as the episode ends.
**It’s also the second episode where Mr. Krabs was suspected to be a robot, after the same episode. There however, he actually was a robot imposter made by Plankton.
*SpongeBob claims that robots can’t laugh, cry, or love, but actual robot characters in the series (like Karen) can express those emotions.
*This is the first episode where inanimate objects were interrogated.
*In total, Squidward destroyed at least $120.12 out of Mr. Krabs' money excluding the gift and cash register.
*This episode is a rare occasion where Squidward had went along with SpongeBob’s crazy schemes.
*The title card music is the same as that Mr. Krabs listens to in this episode.
*This episode has another mention of Uncle Sherm who’s mentioned several times in the series but never shown.
*When Mr. Krabs crushes the egg, he drops the tongs, but when he comes out of his office, he has them back in his hand again.
Meme
Sure enough, the part where Mr. Krabs calls the radio station to play a song has become an Internet meme, involving users remixing Krabs' interpretation of the melody to the tune of a different song. Here is an example.
*Krabs: (calls radio station) Yes, hello. I was wondering if you could play that song again.
*Radio DJ: Oh, which one, man?
*Krabs: The one that goes, "beep-boop-boop-boop-bop, beep-boop-boop-boop-bop, boop-boop-boop-boop-bop!"

Squidward then wonders how they will find out what happened to the "real" Mr. Krabs, and SpongeBob says that the main character in the movie teamed up with a buddy and they "got the poop on" (collected information from) the robot. ==Plot==
SpongeBob watches a movie called "Night of the Robot," and thinks everyone in his presence is a robot. Before going back to his post, he sees Mr. Krabs asking his radio to play him a song, strange dancing, saying he feels "recharged" and constantly saying beep-boop-bop-beep-bop-beep over the phone. So Squidward and SpongeBob become paranoid and try to get the "poop" out of Mr. Krabs reading a book called "How to Torture." They try to ask him where the real Mr. Krabs is, but Mr. Krabs truthfully says that he is him. So to interrogate him they destroy his valuables, but suddenly he bursts out crying, and mentioning love, and laughs, the three things robots can’t do in the movie. So Squidward asks how the movie ended. SpongeBob states it was only their imagination. Feeling that he’ll get in trouble for keeping Mr. Krabs hostage, he says "Look, time to feed Gary!" and runs out the door. Then, the episode ends with Mr. Krabs yelling "Squidward!"
*Welcome to Our Club!

Plot
Squidward appears from his house to ride his bike to work. SpongeBob and Patrick are in a beanstalk treehouse speaking in code about Squidward going to work, and can be heard giggling. Squidward rides over to them and begins to mock their secret language, but SpongeBob says they can’t tell him about the secret language, because he’s not a member of the club. Squidward asks: "What does it take to be a member, besides being a moron?" SpongeBob tells Squidward that he couldn’t get into the club even if he tried, to which Squidward retorts that he happens to be a member of over twenty different exclusive clubs all across the sea bottom. Patrick says that Squidward will definitely not fit in, then Squidward says they should be begging him to join the club as he starts to climb the beanstalk. He gets inside the treehouse only to find that there’s no room for him, which was the exact kind of fitting in that SpongeBob and Patrick were referring to. SpongeBob and Patrick decide to initiate Squidward anyhow, and sing him the welcome song.

Squidward gets annoyed and tries to get out of the club by pulling on a beanstalk branch, causing the whole treehouse to go flying into the air, landing in a kelp forest, presumedly in the middle of nowhere. As the treehouse flies, a couple mistakes it as a shooting star, and the male fish says "Make a wish, honey." to the female.

The boys emerge from the treehouse. Patrick and SpongeBob are excited because of the ride, but Squidward’s frantically pacing about the fact that he’s lost with SpongeBob and Patrick. He shouts: "Why must every eleven minutes of my life be filled with misery?! Why?!"

Squidward says that this is the end, but SpongeBob tries to reassure him by saying that they will be fine if they stick together, and that they’re already fine because they have a "magic conch shell". Patrick tells SpongeBob to ask it something, so he pulls the cord on the shell while asking if he will ever get married, to which the conch replies: "Maybe someday."

Squidward thinks the idea’s absurd, and that it’s just a stupid toy. The boys are angered by Squidward’s comment, and SpongeBob asks the shell what they must do to be rescued. The response: "Nothing." Due to this, SpongeBob and Patrick sit down with blank looks on their faces, literally doing nothing. Squidward abandons them after mocking them again. He finds himself lost in the forest, until he sees a light at the end of the kelp tunnel. After running towards it, he ends up right where he began, which means that if he had been running in a straight line as was alluded to, he would’ve had to run all the way around the world.

This leads to Squidward setting up a semi-camp, starting a fire and trying to grill a bug on a frying pan. Where he got the pan is not specified. He continues to mock the two of them for listening to the conch, saying that it tells them nothing "as if the answers to all your problems will fall right out of the sky!" At the same time, a Picnic Supply Inc. plane starts falling out of the sky and must drop the load: a pre-assembled picnic table and umbrella, tent, and a very large supply of various foods. SpongeBob and Patrick immediately begin to dig into all the food. Just so he can have food, Squidward apologizes for his selfishness but SpongeBob says that he should ask the Magic Conch what he should eat. The conch is apparently mad at Squidward for his prior remarks and tells him he can’t have anything to eat. After many tries, his head grows red in anger.

Suddenly, a park ranger appears. He sees the boys’ conch and lets everyone know he’s also a club member. He asks the conch what they should do now, to which the reply is: "Nothing." again. The three of them flop down into the blank look once again; Squidward weakly joins them and, closing the episode, says "All hail the magic conch!"

Trivia/Goofs
*When Squidward asks the conch shell if he can eat anything and it says "no" the last time, the conch shell’s being held by SpongeBob’s hand instead of Squidward’s, but in the next shot, Squidward’s holding the conch shell again.
*Squidward’s line "Why must every eleven minutes of my life be filled with misery?" is a reference to approximately how long an average episode is. Squidward did the same thing in the episode Nature Pants: "I’ll give him eleven minutes." Also, though not by Squidward, this reference also appears at the end of the later episode Missing Identity: "Well, you managed to kill eleven minutes."
*The Magic Conch is a reference to the Magic 8 Ball.
*On one disc of the DVD The First 100 Episodes, before one watches an episode, the line "Why must every eleven minutes of my life be filled with misery?" is played, but in a higher voice for unknown reasons.
The Algae’s Always Greener is the first episode of season 3, featuring Plankton. In the episode, in another attempt to get the Krabby Patty formula, Plankton switches lives with Mr. Krabs.
*Nancy
*Harold
*Squidward Tentacles

Plot
At the Krusty Krab, Old Man Walker grabs a bottle of ketchup and heads to a table. Since he is old, he accidentally shoots it at a wall. Plankton is inside the ketchup bottle, and doesn’t expect this. He’s been fired through the wall and into the office of Mr. Krabs, who throws him back to the Chum Bucket.

As Plankton tries to think of a new plan, Karen suggests he uses a ”Switch-Lives-Just-to-Know-What-It’s-Like-o-Mogrifier”, which he conveniently made last Tuesday. Plankton takes Karen’s advice and finds himself waking up in the Krusty Krab, wearing Krabs’ clothes. There’s also a nameplate reading "Mr. Plankton" instead of "Mr. Krabs", which means: Plankton’s successfully entered a universe where he owns the Krusty Krab instead of Krabs owning it. He then has SpongeBob (now his employee) present him with two Krabby Patties for a "bun inspection".

As Mr. Plankton celebrates his newfound wealth, SpongeBob suddenly appears for his weekly performance review. Mr. Plankton dismissively tells his yellow subordinate that he’s fine the way he is, but SpongeBob begs for evaluation. Plankton makes up a critique that SpongeBob’s "using too much sauce", but rather than placating him, it sends SpongeBob into bizarrely manifested despair in spite of wanting to be criticized. Mr. Plankton resorts to promoting SpongeBob to "co-cashier", much to the disdain of Plankton’s other employee, Squidward Tentacles. Squidward enters Plankton’s office to raise a stink and ends up as SpongeBob’s fry-cooking replacement.

Before Mr. Plankton can get back to his Krabby Patties, his new daughter, Pearl, arrives, asking for an advance on her allowance. He gives her one dollar, which she finds unacceptably small. As she cries, a customer complains about Squidward’s horrific attempt at kitchen work while SpongeBob dissolves over a slightly mistaken order. Plankton begs for all the complaining to stop, which happens because of a siren going off.

The siren, as SpongeBob explains, is a warning for an imminent threat to the Krabby Patty formula, which turns out to be Eugene Krabs. Having life circumstances closer to those of Plankton at the beginning of the episode, he’s now simply known as "Krabs", out to steal the formula, and (just like Plankton used to be) completely naked.

SpongeBob fights Krabs with a cannon launching clothes, and finally manages to clap him in an underwire bra. Krabs relinquishes his stolen burger to a baffled Mr. Plankton as everyone else gives a "victory screech". Krabs vows to Mr. Plankton that one day, he will manage to steal a Krabby Patty, even if he has to raid the place daily, which he repeats as he leaves. Plankton finally finds his nemesis’ life intolerable. He screams and disrobes before pushing a button, which turns everything back to normal.

Plankton’s transported directly in front of his holographic meatloaf back at the Chum Bucket within his own universe. He has a newfound appetite for the meatloaf and scoops it up, "eating" it without hesitation as the episode ends.
Trivia/Goofs
*The title is a parody of the sayings "the grass is always greener on the other side of the hill" or "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence".
**Also, Plankton’s quote to Karen before switching lives with Mr. Krabs ("a rolling stone gathers no algae") is a parody of the saying: "a rolling stone gathers no moss".
*A live shrimp is featured in this episode when Mr. Krabs says "So long, shrimp!" as he launches Plankton.
*The burger that Plankton takes a closer look at resembles the Nasty Patty from the episode: Nasty Patty.
*It seems that although Plankton had switched lives with Mr. Krabs, the restaurant’s still called the Krusty Krab and the burger’s still called the Krabby Patty.
*When SpongeBob says "he is around here somewhere", the captions read "he’s around here somewhere".
*Plankton can afford holographs, but apparently not food.
*This is the first time Mr. Krabs is completely naked. The second time would be in the episode Best Frenemies.
*Several lines are deleted in the comic version:
**"Ouch."
**"No..."
**"Ahh."
**"Corporate casual!"
**"But I've never reviewed anything, except for those foreign exercise videos my cousin sent me."
**"Oh, please sir! I wanna make you so happy and proud!"
**"What?"
**"The sauce."
**"So have you two known each other or what?"
**"Hope you like gray."
**"In a cosmic sort of way, yes."
**"Well, Mr. Funny Man, is this how you get your sick kicks?"
**"I tried, Mr. Plankton, I really did."
**"Where’s the "off" button on this thing?"
**"I don’t understand. Is there a gas leak in here?"
*There’s a deleted scene taking place after Plankton goes back to his regular life; the other-universe characters remark that Mr. Plankton needs help and has become a nut job.
*This is the first episode where the primary-universe SpongeBob doesn’t appear. However, his Mr. Plankton Universe counterpart appears instead.
